Code of Ethics
We aim at supporting our clients’ individual personal growth, empowerment and integration, and their emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. This applies to all our therapeutic services, which may employ various disciplines. These broadly encompass talking (e.g. coaching, counselling, education, psychotherapy) and/or non-touch somatic modalities (e.g. body coaching, breathwork, somatic inquiry, trauma release).
Whilst the specific modalities used may vary between clients or between different session with the same client, our ethical code of conduct applies equally to all therapy-related professional activities including individual or group work, coaching, teaching, training, and consulting, and provides a common set of values upon which we deliver our services and continually build our professional work.
We strive to be professional in attitude and conduct, responsible in relations with clients, reliable in agreements and timely in appointment schedules. We are fully aligned with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) Ethical Framework, the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Code of Ethics and Professional Practice, and the Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists or Hypnotherapists (ACCPH) Code of Conduct and Ethics,
Boundaries, Consent and Choice
We recognise and promote the importance of consent and choice in all professional interactions with our clients. We will strive to provide a range of options from which the client can actively elect that which will serve their own growth. At no time shall a client be required or coerced to participate in any activity, event or exercise that they do not consent to. We will always inform and educate our clients about consent and choice, and actively create an environment of safety and trust where clients are empowered to exercise those skills.
We always strive to co-create clear agreements with clients before engaging in any form of therapy. On a case by case basis, we may use written intake forms and/or contracts where consent is given in writing by the client before proceeding with a therapy session.
Care for Clients’ Wellbeing
We acknowledge the importance of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. To protect the health of both client and us, we pay special attention to the need for risk-reduction and professional protocol in all individual, couple and/or group therapy sessions. We take steps to minimize any harm, in active collaboration with our clients.
We have regular supervision as a routine part of our practice, including peer/group supervision and/or expert supervision/mentoring.
We always consider the limits of our skills and experience before accepting requests for or providing services to potential clients, and will refuse professional work for which we consider that we are insufficiently qualified, in which case we may recommend alternative modalities or refer another practitioner.
We will terminate professional relationships with clients when our services are no longer required or no longer serve the needs and interests of our clients. We may unilaterally terminate services on just and reasonable grounds after careful assessment of all situational factors and any possible adverse effects.
We will not exploit the professional relationships with our clients, whether current or past, for personal gain, whether financial, professional, emotional, or for research purposes.
We will respect, defend, and preserve the privacy of all information gained from clients. We always preserve the anonymity of clients when using information for purposes of supervision, teaching, or research.
